FREQUENTLY AVOIDED QUESTIONS
Most people are nervous, anxious, scared, and just over all don't know what to expect from counseling.
Here are some questions that most people might be afraid to ask. Hopefully they help you ease your experience.
Will I be laying down on a couch?
usually someone saw this on a movie, and we've had people come in and automatically lay down on the couch, but most people prefer to sit down and have a conversation. You can lay down if you want to though.
Am I crazy since I want counseling?
Nope. lots of healthy, successful, smart people go to counseling regularly. We all need help. Most people end up enjoying and benefiting from the counseling process.
Am I normal?
Everyone is normal until you get to know them.
Everyone does things they aren't proud of or even understand. That's human. We try to emphasize our common humanity in our counseling and services. Sometimes we do things that don't logically make sense, but they may make sense for emotional or survival reasons, we don't blame anyone for those things. We want to try to help your thoughts and emotions not get in your way but rather help you.
What can I expect?
You'll be greeted in the lobby and checked in for your appointment time.
Payment will be received prior to receiving services.
The counselor will walk you back to the room and we will begin your session.
Usually, during the session we will discuss and process your emotions, thoughts, and actions, develop plan for continuation of your goals
Is it going to be weird or uncomfortable?
Most likely the first few sessions will be a bit uncomfortable because the nature of trying something new and talking to a new person. This usually goes away pretty soon. We will try to do everything on our part to try to help the awkwardness of it and help you be as comfortable as you can. There is an expected uncomfortableness because you are making changes and adjustments to develop new patterns.
What type of payments do you accept?
We accept all major credit cards, cash, and venmo and other cash sharing apps.
Out of Network
FSA or HSA (Check with your HR for requirements)

Why don't you accept insurance?
We have found that more and more people are choosing self pay.
Reasons not to go through insurance:
-Self pay allows for your information (diagnosis, treatment, personal information) to maintain confidential and private rather than
your insurance company knowing your information and becoming part of your medical file
-Insurance companies can dictate terms of treatment, which means they call the shots on number of sessions and how long they last.
-Insurance companies are covering less services so they may not cover all services
-Insurance companies require large amounts of paper work, which require more labor. Self Pay helps keep costs low.
*We offer reasonable rates and provide receipts for those who want to send them in for potential reimbursement.

Why do you say you're holistic
This term gets used a lot. Some clinicians may only look at your thought or emotions or only your behaviors. Ultimately we believe people can't be compartmentalized into neat isolated segments. Our whole experience of living runs togethers.
We believe with focusing on: mentally (thoughts and emotions), physical, spiritually, and socially
These four areas seem to be some of the areas that people have reported get effected the most and they all interact with each other.

How long are sessions?
Most are about 50 minutes. You and the counselor can discuss how much time would be helpful and necessary
If I have been to counseling before, do I need to go again?
We can decide this at the intake evaluation.
Some people may just need a "tune up" to help them "realign" themselves with who they want to be.
Other times, there may be different concerns and goals that you want to work on that you didn't during previous counseling
Do you work with court ordered clients?
Of course. We have had years of experience working with various court services and want to help you navigate the process.
When you come to the intake, be sure to let your counselor know these services will be connected to courts.
Does it make a difference if someone is court ordered or volunteer?
Research has consistently shown that as far as progress and outcomes, it doesn't matter why someone comes into treatment but how do they connect with the counselor and how involved the process are in the process
What if I don't like it and want to stop?
That's perfectly normal. It's important for you and your therapist to connect, and sometimes that doesn't always happen. Usually by session 3 or 4, most people have an idea if they want to continue or not.
It could be for any number of reasons and that's not a bad thing or a failure on anyones part. We do ask that if you feel this is not a good fit, then please notify us if you will need to be canceling any ongoing appointments you may have with us. We also ask that, please don't discontinue the counseling process, just because you didn't connect with us, doesn't mean you should quit trying to help yourself.
Hours
We offer hours in the mornings, afternoons, evenings, and at night to better fit your schedule.
We would rather you not take time off of work to go to an appointment,
if it means you're not likely to keep your appointment.
For that reason, we offer additional hours during the late afternoons, evenings, and on weekends if needed.
We're here to help you, not inconvenience your life.
We would love to hear from you.
